Report: Lions won’t re-sign C Raiola
The Detroit Lions have told veteran center Dominic Raiola that they won’t re-sign him, according to the Detroit Free Press.
After the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs by the Dallas Cowboys, Raiola said he was hoping to be back.
“I’m optimistic,” said Raiola, who re-signed last year for one season at $1.5 million. “I think I will be (back), but I’m not going to sit here and tell you I’m not. I still want to play, I still think I have a lot to offer and a lot to offer this locker room. If I could go one more go around, I’d be honored.”
Detroit drafted Travis Swanson in the third round last year and apparently is prepared to move on from the 36-year-old Raiola, who has started a franchise-record 203 games since being selected in the second round of the 2001 draft.
