Report: Jets will fire Ryan, Idzik on Monday

Published

on

The New York Jets reportedly are set to clean house after completing a 4-12 season.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday night that source told him the Jets will fire both head coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik on Monday.

Earlier reports indicated the team might first fire Idzik, then left the new GM decide whether to retain Ryan. However, according to Mortensen, Jets owner Woody Johnson will move quickly to cut ties with both the coach and the GM.

Ryan, 52, has a 45-51 regular-season record in six seasons as the Jets’ coach. In his first two seasons with the team, 2009 and 2010, the Jets advanced to the AFC Championship Game each season. Over the past four seasons, New York finished 8-8 twice and finished below .500 twice.

Ryan, previously was the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, cleared out his office at the team’s practice facility in Florham Park, N.J., in anticipation of being fired, NJ.com reported Saturday. Multiple media outlets reported that Jets consultant Charley Casserly was already contacting potential replacements.

Idzik is in his second year as the Jets’ GM. He previously held front office positions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
