Report: Jaguars TE Thomas to have surgery on finger
The Sports Xchange
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas received a second opinion on his injured finger and will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair it, according to multiple reports.
Thomas, a two-time Pro Bowl selection who signed a five-year, $46 million contract with the Jaguars during the offseason as a free agent, could be sidelined for up to a month after the procedure.
Dr. Richard Gelberman recommended surgery after Thomas traveled to St. Louis for an evaluation. Thomas sustained a stable fractue in his left hand during the opening quarter of the first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last month.
The Jaguars are hopeful that Thomas could return for their Week 4 game against the Indianapolis Colts. The team initially thought Thomas could return for the season opener next week.
Backup tight end Clay Harbor is expected to see increased playing time until Thomas’ injury heals.
