Report: Injury ends season for Giants’ Ayers
The 2014 season is over for New York Giants defensive end Robert Ayers.
Ayers tore a pectoral muscle during Sunday’s 25-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and he will be placed on injured reserve, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
In his first season with the Giants after signing a two-year, $4 million contract in April, Ayers shared the team lead in sacks with five and had 22 tackles.
The 29-year-old Ayers’ absence likely means more playing time for second-year defensive end Damontre Moore and rookie Kerry Wynn.
Wynn had a half-sack in his NFL debut on Sunday.
Ayers joined the Giants after five seasons with the Denver Broncos. He has 164 career tackles and 17 sacks.
