Report: Dolphins release QB Freeman
The Sports Xchange
The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Josh Freeman on Friday, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Freeman, a former first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had been trying to latch on as the No. 3 quarterback behind Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore. But he finished the preseason with two interceptions against his old team on Thursday.
“I want to keep playing, no question,” he said after the game. “I love playing football. At the end of the day, I’m going to give it all I can until I exhaust every option.”
Freeman, 27, was a first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009 and started 59 games for them over his first five seasons.
The Buccaneers released him in October 2013 after the relationship between the player and the team soured, and Freeman had bounced from the Minnesota Vikings to the New York Giants to Miami over the past two years.
Since the Bucs released him, he has played in one game — a start for the Vikings only days after he joined them in 2013.
In 61 games, he has completed 57.6 percent of his passes for 13,724 yards, 80 touchdowns and 67 interceptions. He has a career passer rating of 77.8.
