Report: DE Hughes close signing with Bills
Free agent defensive end Jerry Hughes is close to re-signing with the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple media reports Sunday night.
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported that Buffalo is offering Hughes a contract worth $8.5 million per year.
Hughes, 26, recorded 10 sacks in each of the past two seasons. The Buffalo News’ Vic Carucci reported that new Bills coach Rex Ryan believes Hughes will fit nicely in his defensive scheme.
A first-round pick by the Colts in 2010 out of TCU, Hughes spent three years in Indianapolis before he was traded to Buffalo in April 2013 for linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.
In his first season with the Bills, Hughes started just once but made 46 tackles and defended two passes while appearing in all 16 games. He started every game in 2014 and recorded a career-high 53 tackles.
Over 72 career games (24 starts), Hughes has 25 sacks, 161 tackles and three passes defensed.
