Report: Chargers’ Verrett out 2-3 weeks
San Diego Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett reportedly will miss 2-3 weeks with a torn labrum in his shoulder.
Verrett aggravated the injury in the second quarter against the Denver Broncos last week.
Verrett, the Charger’s first-round pick this year, will wait to see whether the inflammation reduces, and the team will evaluate him after the Week 10 bye, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Verrett will consider surgery after the season, Rapoport reported.
The Chargers (5-3) play at the Miami Dolphins (4-3) this week and then don’t play again until Nov. 15.
Verrett, the No. 25 overall pick in the draft, has been one of the best defensive rookies in the NFL this season. He has started four of six games, recording 19 tackles, four passes defensed and one interception.
The Chargers’ other starter at corner, Brandon Flowers, missed the game against the Broncos with a concussion and did not practice Wednesday. Backup Steve Williams, who suffered a groin injury in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, was back at practice.
