Report: Browns, Raiders, Chiefs chasing Revis

Published

on

Cornerback Darrelle Revis can become a free agent at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and it’s more than a two-horse race for his services.

The New England Patriots were hopeful of retaining Revis after declining his $20 million option for 2015. If the Patriots don’t reel Revis back to Foxborough, the New York Jets are likely to lead the bidding. Revis was drafted by the Jets before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2013 NFL Draft.

According to reports, the queue of suitors is growing.

The Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs all would like to sign Revis.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine and Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton were assistant coaches with the Jets when Revis played there.

Revis made $16 million in one season with the Buccaneers and $12 million in 2014 with the Patriots.

The team that presents the best opportunity to win would seem to be the Patriots, with whom Revis won a Super Bowl title in February.

The Jets, Browns and Raiders can offer more money. New York has more $50 million available under the salary cap and the Raiders aren’t far behind, having set aside significant funds to pursue free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Suh agreed to a six-year, $114 million contract with the Miami Dolphins.
