San Francisco 49ers running back Reggie Bush suffered a strained calf and not a tear during the Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports.

49ers coach Jim Tomsula told reporters on Tuesday that he’s not sure about Bush’s status for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I don’t know that,” Tomsula said, “but I will give you that answer as soon as we have it. Again, we don’t want something that can be taken care of in four days to end up being six weeks. So I do want to stay on that approach. I mean, if he can play, he’s going to play.”

The 49ers opened the season with a 20-3 victory over the Vikings. Bush had just two carries for 8 yards before he limped to the sideline in the first quarter.

Bush’s departure on Monday night paved the way for second-year running back Carlos Hyde to run wild for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Bush signed a one-year deal as a free agent with the 49ers during the offseason after playing for the Detroit Lions. Last season, Bush rushed for 297 yards on 76 carries and caught 40 passes for 253 yards.
