Report: 49ers add former NT Franklin to staff
New San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula will hire one of the team’s former players, Aubrayo Franklin, as a defensive assistant coach, the Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday.
Franklin, 34, spent 11 seasons as an NFL nose tackle with the Baltimore Ravens (2003-06), San Francisco (2007-10), New Orleans Saints (2011), San Diego Chargers (2012) and Indianapolis Colts (2013).
According to the Bee, Franklin won’t fill the 49ers’ vacant defensive line coach position. Instead, he will serve under a more experienced coach who has yet to be selected.
Eric Mangini is in place as Tomsula’s defensive coordinator, and the Bee reported he is likely to employ a 3-4 formation.
