Redskins LB Galette will have season-ending surgery Friday
The Sports Xchange
Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed Thursday that linebacker Junior Galette is out for the season with a torn left Achilles.
Galette will have surgery on Friday, the team said.
The Redskins feared Galette tore the tendon at the end of training camp practice Wednesday. Gruden told reporters after that practice that Galette had suffered a left ankle/foot injury. NFL Network reported that Galette will miss the season based on MRI results revealing the full tear.
The injury ends Galette’s first season with the Redskins after just one month with the franchise. He signed a one-year contract on July 31.
The New Orleans Saints cut Galette on July 27 following the release of a 2013 video that appears to show a physical altercation on a beach between Galette and a woman.
The 27-year-old Galette was set to make his preseason debut Saturday night against the Baltimore Ravens after spending time rehabilitating a torn left pectoral muscle.
Galette recorded 22 sacks the past two seasons with the Saints — a career-high 12 in 2013 and 10 last season.
