Redskins’ Griffin may begin individual drills this week
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to get back on the practice field this week.
Griffin, who suffered a dislocated ankle in the first quarter of the team’s September 14 game against the Jaguars, is not ready to participate in team drills this week. But he may begin working out on his own on Wednesday.
“I think he’s going to start individual drills this week,” said coach Jay Gruden. “As far as actually taking practice reps I think that will be at least another week. We’ll get him out there, do some individual drills, throw some balls to balls to the wideouts. That will be the first step. Then next week we’ll try to get him maybe in some practice situations and see where he is.”
Griffin began doing agility drills last week, and did some sprinting before Sunday’s game in Arizona.
The Redskins want Griffin to have at least one full week of practice with the team under his belt before he returns for a game. That timeline means it is possible he could play in the Monday night game in Dallas on October 27.
Kevin Cousins has been the Redskins’ quarterback in Griffin’s absence. Cousins played well in first two games, but played poorly in the past two games.
