Redskins-Dolphins inactives: RG3 to sit
The Sports Xchange
LANDOVER, Md. — The previous three opening games of his NFL career, Robert Griffin III was Washington’s starting quarterback. Sunday, he is the inactive third-stringer as Kirk Cousins gets the start for the Redskins against the visiting Miami Dolphins.
Griffin, who suffered a concussion in the preseason game against Detroit on Aug. 20, was finally cleared to return to action Friday, but he is behind Cousins and Colt McCoy on coach Jay Gruden’s depth chart.
Washington’s other inactives are receiver Rashad Ross, recently signed tight end Anthony McCoy, offensive linemen Tom Compton (calf), Arie Kouandjio and Spencer Long, and outside linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat (hamstring).
On Saturday, the Redskins signed linebacker Houston Bates from their practice squad and released defensive end Frank Kearse.
Miami’s inactives are receiver Matt Hazel, running back Jonas Gray, offensive tackle Jason Fox, defensive tackle A.J. Francis, linebacker Chris McCain, and cornerbacks Will Davis and Tony Lippett.
Gray and center Sam Brunner were signed Friday from the practice squad. The Dolphins released center/guard Jacques McClendon and quarterback Logan Thomas to make room for Gray and Brunner.
