It was a long wait for a lot of prospects who were rumored to go in the first or second rounds, but for many their wait is now finished.

The fifth round of the NFL Draft featured a few high profile players from high profile schools, and although their wait was much longer than they had hoped, these players may have landed in great spots.

Former University of Minnesota running back David Cobb has all-around 3-down back skills and he will have a great opportunity to start as a rookie with the Tennessee Titans, assuming he can beat out underwhelming 2014 rookie Bishop Sankey.

Boise State running back Jay Ajayi was a second-round talent who dropped significantly after some injury concerns.  Ajayi landed in Miami with the Dolphins and will attempt to beat out Lamar Miller for reps.  Assuming he’s healthy, Ajayi is the superior football player.

National champion running back from Florida State Karlos Williams won’t be a starting running back in Buffalo (as he sits behind LeSean McCoy), but he will be a special teams contributor and may get some action in short-yardage situations.

Williams’ college teammate, wide receiver Rashad Greene landed in a good spot in Jacksonville, as he will likely move to the slot.  Greene will be part of the Jaguars young core on offense that includes quarterback Blake Bortles, running backs T.J. Yeldon and Denard Robinson, wide receivers Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns as well as tight end Julius Thomas.

“God put me to be here,” Greene said.  “Truly in my heart and just talking to my father about a visit that I had, I told him I could see myself in Jacksonville, so I am where I truly wanted to be in my heart. Now, it’s time to take advantage of the opportunity regardless of where I went in the draft. It’s an opportunity that not a lot of guys get, so I am going to take full advantage of it and go in and work my tail off for the organization.”

A few other potentially good wide receiver fits are former Michigan State Spartan Tony Lippett in Miami, former Maryland receiver Stefon Diggs in Minnesota and Nebraska wide receiver Kenny Bell in Tampa Bay.

Just because two running backs went in the top half of the first round, doesn’t mean the position is no longer undervalued. Today’s draft proved further example of that, as some extremely productive backs had to wait until the fifth round to hear their names called. The best of the bunch is David Cobb, a powerful north-and-south runner who joins a Titans offense that has been completely retooled over the weekend. Several other notables names went, as well, including Jay Ajayi (Boise State), Karlos Williams (Florida State) and Cameron Artis-Payne (Auburn). When one or more of these players rush for 1,000-plus yards this season, the Rams and Chargers will have to wonder if they would have been better off waiting to address the running back position in an extremely deep draft.– Michael Lombardo

The 5th-round began with some great value on offense, especially at the running back position where the Tennessee Titans selected Minnesota back David Cobb, and Miami took Jay Ajayi. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected undersized yet super productive Florida State receiver Rashad Greene, and the Green Bay Packers may have selected Aaron Rodgers backup when they took UCLA’s Brett Hundley.

I think the best pick of the round is Jay Ajayi. Sure there are some concerns about his medical, but how many times can you really rely on a running back to have longevity? Ajayi could be Miami’s best back for the next handful of years, and if that’s the case he’s an absolute steal this late in the draft. — Pat Donovan

“The two picks I really liked in this round were skill position talents that I thought would’ve gone long before the fifth, Minnesota’s pick of Stefon Diggs and then a few picks later Miami’s selection of Jay Ajayi. The Vikings needed to add targets for Teddy Bridgewater and get a solid one in Diggs, a prototype slot receiver who also has a knack for turning short gains into long ones after the catch. The Dolphins are definitely one of my draft winners, they’ve added two pieces to their offense that can come in and make a big impact on day one. They won’t use Ajayi as a workhorse with Lamar Miller finally having broken out last year, but they could. Ajayi has the burst and strength to be a poor man’s Marshawn Lynch.” – Devon Jeffreys
