RB Richardson files grievance for 2015 pay

Published

on

Running back Trent Richardson filed a grievance against the Indianapolis Colts, who don’t plan to pay his $3.1 million salary for 2015 after releasing him Thursday.

Richardson seemingly had worn out his welcome in Indianapolis long before the Colts signed running back Frank Gore this week, and because he was suspended by the team, the Colts are not obligated to pay his remaining salary.

Richardson was suspended two games by the team before the AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots due to failure to communicate with the team about why he missed a walkthrough practice. He cited a family emergency, which was related to his girlfriend facing potential complications with her pregnancy.

Richardson said Thursday he did not see eye to eye with general manager Ryan Grigson.

Richardson, 24, was acquired from the Cleveland Browns for a first-round pick in 2013. In 29 games with Indianapolis, he rushed for 977 yards and six touchdowns, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.

The Browns drafted him in the first round in 2012, and he played 17 games over two seasons, amassing 1,055 yards and 11 touchdowns on 298 carries (3.5-yard average).

The Colts also waived running back Michael Hill, a former practice squad player who was signed before the playoffs in January and appeared in both playoff games on special teams.
