RB Johnson wants to be a Cowboy
The Sports Xchange
Veteran running back Chris Johnson, still looking for a place to play this season, is making his pitch to be signed by the Dallas Cowboys
After being cut by the New York Jets after the 2014 season, the former 2,000-yard rusher believes he could be the answer to what the Cowboys need at running back after letting DeMarco Murray go to the Philadelphia Eagles and not taking a running back in the 2015 NFL Draft. In response, the Cowboys signed Darren McFadden to a two-year deal worth up to $5.85 million.
“I’d fit good in Dallas,” Johnson told TMZ outside a Los Angeles restaurant, according to the Dallas Morning News. “They need it. Yeah. That’s what we’re trying to do. … Dallas, come holler at me.”
Johnson signed a two-year deal with the Jets in 2014, but he had the worst rushing season in his career, totaling 663 yards and one touchdown on 155 carries. Johnson became a free agent after the Jets declined to pick up his option for 2015.
In March, Johnson was shot in the shoulder in a drive-by shooting in Orlando, Fla.. The driver of the car Johnson was riding in was killed. In January, Johnson was arrested in Orlando and charged with carrying a firearm, a second-degree misdemeanor. The charge was dropped in March.
Johnson spent six years with the Tennessee Titans. He was a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his six seasons with the Titans, including a 2,006-yard year in 2009.
Johnson was accompanied in Los Angeles by former Titans teammate and Texas Longhorns quarterback Vince Young, who was asked if Johnson would be a good fit with the defending NFC East champions.
“He’ll fit well,” Young told TMZ. “They gonna love CJ out there.”
Johnson has 8,628 rushing yards in his seven-year career. He was the Titans’ first-round pick in 2008.
