RB Gray among Patriots’ inactives

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Running back Jonas Gray was among the New England Patriots’ game-day inactives for Super Bowl XLIX.

The first-year player out of Notre Dame rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a Nov. 16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, but has logged only 24 carries over the Patriots’ eight games since. He carried four times for four yards in the AFC Championship Game.

LeGarrette Blount has taken over the lead role in the backfield with 149 yards on 33 carries and three touchdowns during New England’s two postseason games. Third-down back Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden are the Patriots’ other two active halfbacks.

The Patriots’ other inactive players: defensive end Zach Moore, wide receivers Josh Boyce and Brian Tyms, defensive tackle Joe Vellano, offensive lineman Jordan Devey and running back James White.
