RB Forsett, Ravens in contract talks

Published

on

Running back Justin Forsett and the Baltimore Ravens are discussing a deal that would keep Forsett with the franchise after his first career 1,000-yard season.

Forsett entered 2014 training camp with the Ravens near the bottom of the depth chart, and said he was likely kept only because of his relationship with then-offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who had coached Forsett in Houston.

But Forsett saw the depth chart crumble when Ray Rice was suspended, Bernard Pierce was ineffective in the opener and then injured, and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro wasn’t ready for a heavy workload.

By Week 13, Forsett had firmly established himself as the starter and gone over the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his seven-year career. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and finished fifth in the NFL in rushing with 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns.
