Ravens snag WR Givens in swap with Rams
The Sports Xchange
With injuries piling up for the Ravens, general manager Ozzie Newsome traded for St. Louis Rams wide receiver Chris Givens on Saturday.
Givens was caught in a numbers game with the Rams.
To make room on the 53-man roster, the Ravens placed wide receiver Michael Campanaro (back) on Injured Reserve. Campanaro was injured Thursday night after another productive game, including a 9-yard touchdown on a reverse.
The Ravens are unsure of the status of No. 1 wide receiever Steve Smith, who also suffered a back injury Thursday. First-round pick Breshad Perriman hasn’t played this season and underwent a procedure on his knee Thursday morning, further clouding his availability.
In his fourth NFL season, Givens has played in 48 games, making 25 starts. The 6-0, 203-pounder owns 88 catches for 1,433 yards (16.3 avg.) and four touchdowns during his career. He has also returned 28 kickoffs for 640 yards (22.9 avg.) and rushed eight times for 48 yards (6.0 avg.)
Givens was originally selected by St. Louis out of Wake Forest in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
