Ravens rookie WR Perriman longshot for opener

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Wide receiver Breshad Perriman does not appear ready to play in Sunday’s regular-season opener at the Denver Broncos, according to coach John Harbaugh.

The Ravens were counting on Perriman to provide a downfield threat but he injured his knee the first day of training camp and has not returned to practice.

“I saw the reports (that said): ‘He has a chance,’ and I was like, ‘Yes, he has a chance.’ I think I was pretty clear. It’s probably not a real big chance because he hasn’t practiced,” Harbaugh said. “When he comes (back), I don’t have a timeframe from the doctors. I don’t think it’s tremendously far down the road, or we would have done something else with him, as far as his status.

“When he comes back to practice, that will probably be a pretty good indicator that he’s going to be in the lineup pretty soon. That goes, really, for all of our guys right now.”

Kamar Aiken appears likely to be the starter opposite Steve Smith for at least the opener. Aiken outplayed the other receivers below him on the depth chart in the preseason. However, Harbaugh was non-committal about Aiken starting in Denver.

“Kamar just continues to play solid football,” Harbaugh said. “That’s his M.O. He has become a very consistent football player. He’s very reliable, he’s tough, he blocks, and he makes catches – makes catches when he’s contested – runs good routes. (He is) just a very reliable football player.”

NOTES: CB Lardarius Webb failed his first fitness test and battled injuries throughout training camp, but is expected to start opposite Jimmy Smith against the Broncos’ potent passing attack. “He has been practicing since he came back last week, and he looks good,” Harbaugh said. “He’s going to get a tough test. They have two Pro Bowl receivers. I think they were, maybe, the No. 1 and No. 2 – (or) No. 1 and No. 3 – production receivers in the league last year, both on the same team.” … RB Terrence Magee has a chance to earn some reps after being added to the 53-man roster when roster Brent Urban (biceps) was placed on injured reserve-designated for return. Magee carried the ball 28 times for 115 yards in the preseason. He can also play special teams. The knee injury to backup Lorenzo Taliaferro created an opening at running back.
