Ravens Release Devin Hester; Career Could Be Over
After failing to field a punt which led to a safety in Monday night’s 30-23 loss to the New England Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens have released punt returner Devin Hester.
Hester was a four-time Pro Bowler and has what appears to be an unbreakable NFL record with 20 return touchdowns. He missed 11 games in 2015 with turf toe when with the Atlanta Falcons, and there are questions whether he had much if anything left in the tank when Baltimore signed him.
With all the rule changes revolving around kickoffs, the returner position has become somewhat vestigial. Hester is highly unlikely to receive another offer barring an injury to a contender down the stretch.
If he doesn’t play again the question moves to whether or not Hester belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
We broached this topic back in 2014 before he became the all-time record holder for return touchdowns.
