Ravens Add Another Target For Joe Flacco In Maxx Williams
Ravens land top ranked tight end in entire draft in second round.
The Baltimore Ravens moved up ahead of their division rivals Pittsburgh Steelers to select Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams. The Ravens traded their second round (No. 58) and fifth round (No. 158) picks to the Arizona Cardinals to move up three spots.
I’m not going to knock a tight end selection made by a Hall of Fame tight end Ozzie Newsome, who serves as Baltimore’s general manager. Newsome killed two birds with one stone he helped his own team and possibly avoided playing against Williams twice each year against the Steelers.
Dennis Pitta has been unable to shake the injury bug and Owen Daniels’ departure left a huge void at tight end. Although I think last year’s third round selection Crockett Gillmore can develop into a very solid prospect, it appears that his progress in his limited time in the league left something to be desired with the Ravens moving up to take Williams.
Williams is viewed as the top tight end prospect in this year’s draft class after a stellar career at Minnesota. He is able to be a factor in both the running and passing game. With the addition of receiver Breshad Perriman in the first round and Williams in the second, the Ravens have made it a point to improve the targets surrounding quarterback Joe Flacco.
