Rams likely to stay in-house for OC hire

Published

on

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher’s deliberate search for a new offensive coordinator now likely will be an in-house hire, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fisher has brought in a number of candidates since Brian Schottenheimer left on Jan. 7 to become offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Georgia.

According to the newspaper, quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti and tight ends coach Rob Boras are the top options. Both coaches have been on the Rams’ staff since Fisher became the head coach in St. Louis in 2012.

Neither has been a coordinator at the professional level, but Boras ran the offense at UNLV for three years and Cignetti was a coordinator at Fresno State, North Carolina, California, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.

Boras, 44, has spent 11 seasons in the NFL coaching tight ends with the Rams, Jacksonville and Chicago.

Cignetti, 49, has been an NFL quarterbacks coach with San Francisco and New Orleans prior to his stint with the Rams.
