The St. Louis Rams bolstered their defense on Thursday by signing free agent linebacker Akeem Ayers.

The Rams did not disclose terms of the contract, but NFL.com reported that the deal is for two years.

Ayers joined the New England Patriots in October after he was traded along with a seventh-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a sixth-round selection.

Ayers played in nine games and started four for the Patriots. He totaled 20 tackles, four sacks and one interception for New England during its run to the Super Bowl.

In four NFL seasons after being drafted in the second round by the Titans in 2011, Ayers has 252 tackles, 13 sacks, three interceptions and one fumble recovery in 59 games, including 47 starts.
