Raiders reportedly sign OLB Smith, TE Smith
The Oakland Raiders added a former Super Bowl MVP on Tuesday, agreeing to a contract with free agent outside linebacker Malcolm Smith, multiple media outlets reported. Terms of the deal were unknown.
Oakland also agreed to give free agent tight end Lee Smith a three-year, $9.1 million contract, per multiple reports Tuesday. On Monday, the Raiders reached a five-year, $44.5 million agreement with center Rodney Hudson.
Malcolm Smith, 25, was the MVP of Super Bowl XLVIII, when he intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and ran 69 yards for a touchdown, then later recovered a fumble in the Seattle Seahawks’ 43-8 win.
The 25-year-old University of Southern California product spent four seasons in Seattle, appearing in 57 regular-season games and making 16 starts. Last year, he played in 14 games (five starts) and recorded 38 tackles, two forced fumbles and one pass defensed.
Over his career, Malcolm Smith has 130 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks, seven passes defensed and four forced fumbles.
Lee Smith, 27, is known primarily as a blocker rather than a receiver. Over four NFL seasons, all with the Buffalo Bills, he compiled 20 catches for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
Hudson, 25, was a second-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011. He started all 16 games last season for the Raiders’ AFC West rival and 15 games the previous year.
