Raiders part ways with LB Roach, S Young

Published

on

The Oakland Raiders released linebacker Nick Roach and safety Usama Young on Friday with failed physical designations.

Roach sat out the 2014 season because of concussion symptoms after he was injured in the third preseason game on Aug. 22 and had trouble with his vision and balance. During the previous season in 2013, he played in every game as the starting middle linebacker after signing a four-year contract with the Raiders.

In 96 career games with the Raiders and Chicago Bears, Roach has 346 tackles.

Young finished last season on injured reserve after undergoing ACL surgery in October. He had 22 tackles in six games in 2014, raising his career total to 278 tackles with eight interceptions for the Raiders, Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints.

Releasing Roach and Young will free up $3.12 million in cap space for the Raiders.
