Long-time NFL coach Mike Shanahan has interviewed with the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills, according to reports Monday.

Shanahan, 62, got his first head-coaching job in the NFL in 1988 when then-Raiders owner Al Davis hired him to succeed Tom Flores. Shanahan coached 20 games with the Raiders in 1988 and 1989 when the team was still in Los Angeles.

Shanahan made the most of his second chance as a head coach, guiding the Denver Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998.

Shanahan has spent the 2014 season out of football after being fired by the Redskins in December 2013. He finished 24-40 in four seasons with the Redskins.

Shanahan spent three years with the 49ers as their offensive coordinator from 1992-94.

Shanahan reportedly met with Raiders owner Mark Davis and other team officials. Oakland is seeking its seventh head coach in the past nine seasons after firing Dennis Allen in September. Tony Sparano, who is a candidate, took over on an interim basis and led the team to three victories in his 12 games as coach.

The Raiders already have interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The 49ers are looking to fill the opening created when Jim Harbaugh and the team parted ways. He was named head coach at Michigan last week.

The 49ers reportedly interviewed Shanahan on Thursday and were scheduled to interview former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan on Sunday.

Other candidates who have interviewed in San Francisco are 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase.

Former Green Bay Packers and Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren said he was offered NFL jobs last week but that he was interested only in coaching the 49ers. The 66-year-old Holmgren said he was told that the 49ers were not interested. He once served as offensive coordinator in San Francisco.

The Bills’ job came open after former coach Doug Marrone opted out of his contract last week. According to reports, Shanahan reportedly interviewed with the Bills over the weekend in San Francisco.

The Bills owners, Terry and Kim Pegula, planned to fly to San Diego to interview Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich on Sunday. Reich spent his first 10 NFL seasons with the Bills, backing up Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.

Gase interviewed with the Bills on Saturday. Buffalo also is considering defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who joined the Bills a year ago.
