Quinn now appears Falcons’ top candidate

Published

on

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn now appears to be the favorite to get the Atlanta Falcons’ head-coaching job after Todd Bowles landed with the New York Jets.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Falcons are willing to wait for Quinn, who already met with them once but is now preparing for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

The Falcons also are interviewing Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Wednesday, but sources said Quinn is their target to become the next head coach.

Quinn, 44, will be allowed to interview again next week even if the Seahawks win.

The Jets landed Bowles, the Arizona Cardinals’ defensive coordinator, as their new head coach Tuesday night — less than four hours after they announced the hiring of Mike Maccagnan as general manager.

Bowles had a five-hour interview with the Falcons last Saturday. After that, the Falcons reportedly had narrowed their search to Bowles and Quinn.

Now it will be a waiting game for Quinn as the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks try for a repeat.
