Post-Shrine-Game 2015 NFL Mock Draft

With the Shrine Game in the books, here’s an updated 2015 mock draft. Who will your favorite team pick?

The East-West Shrine Game is officially over and with around 100 days left until the 2015 NFL Draft, it’s time for to really start taking a close look at the draft. The deadline to declare for the draft is over and people who follow the draft now have a good glimpse of who and what to watch for in the coming weeks leading up to the draft. Here is my latest mock draft. We’ll continue to release mocks as the draft approaches, with the next one coming after the Senior Bowl, which is just under a week away.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Marcus Mariota, Quarterback, Oregon: People are raving about Mariota and there is plenty of reasons why. For starters, Mariota has the “it” factor scouts look for. He makes excellent decisions, he has a great mind and he can make plays in and out of the pocket. There are concerns with his build, but I see a lot of Russell Wilson in Mariota. Tampa’s offense has some weapons to work with and drafting a quarterback like Mariota would make this Bucs team better.

2. Tennessee Titans

Jameis Winston, Quarterback, Florida State: When you talk to people about whether they like Mariota or Winston, the Winston supporters usually point to that he fits better in the NFL because he is coming from a pro-style offense. Winston has great arm strength and he sees the field tremendously. He makes some questionable decisions, but he stands tall in the pocket and goes through his progressions extremely well. Winston has drawn comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

Leonard Williams, Defensive Tackle, USC: For years now, people have said that the Jagaurs are a few years away. However, I believe that if they don’t excel in 2015, Gus Bradley should be shown the door. Bradley is a defensive mastermind and he really needs more talent to prove his worth in Jacksonville. Leonard Williams is a freak and he would flourish under Bradley’s coaching. Imagine an interior defensive line of Williams and Sen’Derrick Marks.

4. Oakland Raiders

Amari Cooper, Wide Receiver, Alabama: Oakland found their quarterback last year in Derek Carr. At times in 2014, Carr showed just how good he could be. However, the lack of talent around him was a problem and that is something the Raiders’ brass needs to improve upon in 2015. Adding the best skill position player in the draft in Amari Cooper would give Carr a No. 1 option who has the skills to be dominant in the NFL. I see a lot of A.J. Green in Cooper.

5. Washington Redskins

Brandon Scherff, Offensive Tackle, Iowa: Outside of Trent Williams, the Redskins do not really have any talent on this offensive line. Washington needs to improve in the trenches on both sides of the ball and Scherff is the best overall player to do so. Considering Williams needs a competent player across from him and Scherff could be that guy. Another thing is that he has flexibility. Scherff can play right tackle to start his career and he could transition over to play left tackle as well.

6. New York Jets

DeVante Parker, Wide Receiver, Louisville: This will surprise a lot of people because Parker is not seen as a top-six pick. However, the Jets were keen on taking Odell Beckham Jr. last year, but the crosstown rival New York Giants selected him and he went on to be one of the best receivers in the NFL. Parker is a great route-runner. He has excellent wiggle and great burst. The Jets need playmakers for whoever their quarterback is. Parker could help this offense immediately in 2015.

7. Chicago Bears

Landon Collins, Safety, Alabama: The days when the Bears had the best defense in the league are over and, as we saw in 2014, when they rely on their offense to win games, they simply aren’t good. Chicago needs to improve on the defensive side of the football. Last year, they added a really good cornerback in Kyle Fuller. By bringing in a guy like Landon Collins, the Bears would be on their to revamping their secondary and bringing swagger back to the Windy City.

8. Atlanta Falcons

Randy Gregory, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Nebraska: In terms of athleticism and pass-rushing moves, there isn’t a better player in this draft than Gregory. The Nebraska product is great against the run and he uses his hands tremendously. Gregory is ready to play in the NFL and he could start and make an impact immediately for the Falcons.

9. New York Giants

La’el Collins, Offensive Tackle, LSU: The Giants need to do a better job of protecting Eli Manning. Justin Pugh has been decent in New York, but they need more talent on the offensive line. Geoff Schwartz will be healthy in 2015 and if the Giants draft an offensive tackle like Collins, the Giants could have an extremely formidable offensive line next season.

10. St. Louis Rams

Kevin White, Wide Receiver, West Virginia: Quarterback is the biggest need, but reaching for a quarterback here is not wise. Adding a playmaker like Kevin White, however, is a smart decision. White is extremely athletic and he has drawn comparisons to Julio Jones. White is a little raw, as he doesn’t have the best route-running ability and hands, but he makes freak plays and he has the ability to go up for the football and come down with it.

11. Minnesota Vikings

Shane Ray, Defensive End, Missouri: Ray is relentless off the edge. The SEC-leading pass rusher has a freak motor and although he is undersized, Ray has the makings of a dominant pass rusher at the NFL. Ray has great hands and he plays low. He also has great bend around the outside. Paired with Anthony Barr, Minnesota’s first-round pick in 2014, the Vikings could have a young duo to be reckoned with next season.

12. Cleveland Browns

Vic Beasley, Defensive End, Clemson: I think the Browns will give it another year with Johnny Manziel. Wide receiver is a big need, but there are plenty of receivers who can be drafted in the middle rounds. Barkevious Mingo has yet to make an impact, but Beasley is another guy who can be disruptive in the NFL. Beasley needs to put on weight, but he’s extremely athletic off the edge.

13. New Orleans Saints

Trae Waynes, Cornerback, Michigan State: Pass coveraget is becoming a big problem for the Saints. Kenny Vaccaro has been a good player for New Orleans, but they need a true No. 1 cornerback. Look no further than the best cornerback in this draft. Waynes has good size and he has excellent ball skills. He would be a nice addition on this defense.

14. Miami Dolphins

Gerod Holliman, Free Safety, Louisville: Although he is horrible at tackling, Holliman sees the field so well and he is the guy you want as a free safety or a center fielder in your defense. Holliman has unbelievable ball skills and he is a playmaker. If the Dolphins can keep building their defense, having a playmaker like Holliman in the back end of the secondary is huge.

15. San Francisco 49ers

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Cornerback, Oregon: It sucks that Ekpre-Olomu tore his ACL, but there is still enough tape and gameplay to prove that he has the makings of a shutdown NFL cornerback. He has great cover skills and he has terrific athletic ability. The 49ers need a cornerback to pair with their pass rush and Ekpre-Olomu would flourish quite quickly on this defense.

16. Houston Texans

Andrus Peat, Offensive Tackle, Stanford: Quarterback is a problem for the Texans, but there is belief that Ryan Mallett can get it done next season. That being said, the Texans need to give him time so he can grow as a quarterback by having success. Adding a player like Peat would be ideal as he shows the ability to be an excellent offensive tackle in the NFL. Stanford produces quality talent and Peat is another one of those guys.

17. San Diego Chargers

Cedric Ogbuehi, Offensive Tackle, Texas A&M: Philip Rivers is a very good quarterback, but he needs help to be successful. Rivers was hurried a bunch in 2014 and he is one of the least mobile quarterbacks in the league, so this is an issue that San Diego must address. Ogbuehi shows the ability to play guard and tackle and he could be a vital piece for this offense.

18. Kansas City Chiefs

T.J. Clemmings, Offensive Tackle, Pittsburgh: Caught in the midst of an excellent offensive line class, Clemmings is a dominant offensive tackle and he has all the skills to be one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. Clemmings has long arms and he has a great size at 6’5 and 305 pounds. Clemmings is flexible and he is athletic. Clemmings could fill the void Brandan Albert left after the 2013 season.

19. Cleveland Browns via Buffalo Bills

Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Wisconsin: The Browns have an unbelievable offensive line. Alex Mack will return in 2015 and Joel Bitonio and Joe Thomas will join him to be one of the best offensive lines in football. With Manziel geared to start in 2015, the Browns could benefit by adding a dynamic running back like Gordon. By adding Gordon, the Browns could become a run-first football team to take pressure off of Manziel.

20. Philadelphia Eagles

Alex Carter, Cornerback, Stanford: Whether it was Bradley Fletcher or Cary Williams, the Eagles were simply horrendous at the cornerback position in 2014. The Eagles have a good defensive line and they get consistent pressure on the quarterback. That being said, Philadelphia should add a tough cornerback like Carter. Chip Kelly loves PAC-12 players and Carter would be a nice addition.

21. Cincinnati Bengals

Cameron Erving, Center, Florida State: Russell Bodine, who led the 2014 NFL Combine with the most bench press reps, was not good in 2014. The Bengals should add another blocker to give time for Andy Dalton. Erving fits the bill as he has the ability to play every position on the offensive line, which is similar to Zack Martin from last year. Erving and Andrew Whitworth would make this offensive line one of the best.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers

Shaq Thompson, Outside Linebacker, Washington: Even though Dick LaBeau is out in Pittsburgh, the Steelers love athletic linebackers. Last year, they got their man in Ryan Shazier and this year, they could get a similar player in Thompson. The man from Washington is a freak. He has the ability to play running back, wide receiver, outside linebacker and safety. Thompson is a great tackler and he is fluid enough to cover receivers one-on-one.

23. Detroit Lions

Ronnie Stanley, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame: The defense was incredible in 2014 and even with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley likely leaving over the offseason, there is still a ton of talent on this defense. There is also a ton of talent on this offense. However, for Matthew Stafford to become a better quarterback, the Lions should add a guy like Ronnie Stanley. The Notre Dame product would definitely fill a need on the offensive line.

24. Arizona Cardinals

Hau’oli Kikaha, Defensive End, Washington: Arizona might need a receiver if Larry Fitzgerald leaves, but the Cardinals have a talented enough offense and Bruce Arians should be just fine with Carson Palmer returning at quarterback next season. Todd Bowles is as good as gone in Arizona, but the Cardinals should still add a freak pass rusher in Kikaha. The Washington product is incredibly raw, but he is immensely athletic. With Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett, Kikaha could be brought on slowly before becoming a stud.

25. Carolina Panthers

Sammie Coates, Wide Receiver, Auburn: Carolina’s offense isn’t traditional, but they use speed and versatility to score points. Coates from Auburn is an athletic freak and even though the Panthers added Kelvin Benjamin in the first round last year, the Panthers need more talent at the receiving corps. Coates is incredibly raw, but he has the skillset to fit perfectly with Cam Newton.

26. Baltimore Ravens

Maxx Williams, Tight End, Minnesota: For someone who has drawn comparisons Rob Gronkowski, Williams is a guy that can simply catch anything. Williams has excellent size at 6’4, 250 pounds, and he has a huge catch-radius. Williams can make plays in the running game as well and he would be a reliable security blanket for Joe Flacco.

27. Dallas Cowboys

Alvin Dupree, Defensive End, Kentucky: The main problem with the Cowboys in 2014 was their inability to get after the quarterback. Tyrone Crawford and DeMarcus Lawrence showed potential, but the Cowboys need more talent to add to those two. Dupree would provide that as his size is perfect for a 4-3 scheme.

28. Denver Broncos

A.J. Cann, Offensive Guard, South Carolina: Whether it’s Peyton Manning or a new quarterback at the helm in 2015, the Broncos need to beef up their offensive line. It might early for a guard to go, but Cann can make an immediate impact on this football team. Cann would fit perfectly next to Ryan Clady.

29. Indianapolis Colts

Eric Kendricks, Outside Linebacker, UCLA: As the Cowboys game and first Patriots game showed us, the Colts are prone to getting beaten up by the run. Bringing in a player like Kendricks would be huge because he can hold down the edge and he is athletic enough to get around the edge to get after the quarterback.

30. Green Bay Packers

Eddie Goldman, Defensive Tackle, Florida State: With B.J. Raji likely to walk in free agency, the Packers need a defensive tackle and Goldman fits the bill perfectly. Goldman is versatile enough to play in multiple defensive fronts, but more importantly, he is strong enough to man the nose tackle position in Green Bay’s 3-4.

31. New England Patriots

Dorial Green-Beckham, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma/Missouri: This pick is so New England, right? The Patriots are no stranger to taking chances on players and even though Green-Beckham has a lot of negative adversity surrounding him over the past few years, he is exactly what the Patriots need. Tom Brady needs an outside receiver that can be a possession receiver. Green-Beckham could play that role.

32. Seattle Seahawks

Michael Bennett, Defensive Tackle, Ohio State: Seattle could definitely be in play for an offensive skill player, but adding a defensive player like Bennett would be huge. Bennett is great against the run and he is perfect for the 3-technique position in Seattle’s 4-3 defense.
