Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul can earn more than $8.7 million on the one-year deal he signed to return to the New York Giants, but the deal includes no guaranteed money.

Pierre-Paul will not play Sunday but is back with the team this week for the first time since his July 4 fireworks accident and subsequent hand surgeries.

CBS Sports reported in a contract breakdown that Pierre-Paul’s base salary will be $2.55 million, $1.5 million of which is guaranteed for skill and injury at the time of signing, but not for performance.

Pierre-Paul was not given a signing bonus.

His deal is worth a maximum of $8.763 million with incentives. The total works out to the equivalent of the prorated total of about 10 weeks of what his $14.8 million franchise tender would have been. Pierre-Paul didn’t sign that one-year offer on the table from March until the time the team pulled it shortly after he was injured in the fireworks mishap.

Pierre-Paul can earn a $214,000 bonus and a maximum of $1.5 million in roster bonuses.
