The investigation into underinflated footballs used by the New England Patriots during the AFC Championship Game in January didn’t find major wrongdoing by the team, according to Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Speaking Monday at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, Kraft said, “I know that there’s no smoking gun here, chatting with our people. I like to worry about things I can control.

“I think I said it pretty well the week before the Super Bowl, so we’re worried about the 2015 season, and that’s our focus.”

Kraft referred further questions to the league office, which commissioned an investigation headed by Ted Wells into the controversy that came to be known as Deflategate.

The NFL has not announced a timetable for the completion and release of Wells’ report, though commissioner Roger Goodell told Peter King of TheMMQB.com last weekend that the Wells was nearing a conclusion.

Asked about his relationship with Goodell, Kraft said Monday, “He has a very hard job, and I think he does a very fine job at what he does. It’s tough, but he needs to make sure all the people working in the system are also doing it.”

According to multiple media reports, 11 of the 12 balls used by the New England offense in the first half of the AFC title game against Indianapolis were found to be underinflated in relation to league guidelines. The Patriots routed the Colts 45-7 to win the AFC crown, then went on to beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in the Super Bowl.
