Patriots waive TE Wright
The Sports Xchange
Tim Wright was waived by the New England Patriots, who acquired the tight end from Tampa Bay in the Logan Mankins trade.
Scott Chandler signed as an unrestricted free agent to back up All-Pro Rob Gronkowski.
Wright, 25, came to New England along with a fourth-rounder for Mankins. He did not register a reception in the playoffs after grabbing six touchdowns in the regular season among 26 grabs.
Michael Hoomanawanui is the third tight end on the roster and has been effective on special teams.
Wright is likely to draw interest from teams with a need at the position. He is athletic with red-zone production with the Buccaneers and Patriots.
