Patriots victory parade on Tuesday despite storm
The city of Boston will hold a victory parade for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Tuesday, one day after a winter storm dumped a foot of snow in the region.
Boston mayor Marty Walsh said at a news conference Monday that scheduling was necessitated because many Patriots players are headed out of town and would not be available for a celebration later in the week.
“It really comes down to the players,” Walsh said, adding that he expects the full organization in attendance.
Walsh said the focus on Monday will be snow removal both along the parade route and in surrounding areas of the city.
The route for the parade will begin at the Prudential Center in downtown Boston and end at City Hall. The mayor said there will be no rally at City Hall Plaza after the parade due to the cold temperatures expected.
“The temperature tomorrow is expected to be about 14 degrees without the wind chill … (so) out of safety we are not going to have a rally here tomorrow,” Walsh told reporters.
On Twitter after the Patriots’ 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks, Walsh told his followers to “cue the duck boats!” Walsh estimated Monday that 25 duck boats will run along the route during the parade.
The Patriots were scheduled to fly back from Arizona on Monday afternoon and land at Boston’s Logan Airport in the evening.
