With the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected former Texas defensive tackle Malcom Brown. Here’s what our Football Insiders experts thought of this pick:

———————————————————————————————————————

“It seems rare for the Patriots to so blatantly draft for need, but that’s what the defending champs did to end the first round, selecting their Vince Wilfork replacement Malcom Brown. Brown will plug right into Wilfork’s spot on the defensive line, but has the versatility to come at teams from a variety of spots along the New England front. The athletic tackle is as good against the pass as he is against the run and the Pats won’t miss a beat with him up front.” – Devon Jeffreys

“New England’s biggest need was a supremely talented fat guy who can replace Vince Wilfork. They found him in Malcom Brown.” – Alex Hickey

———————————————————————————————————————

“The New England Patriots got great value with the final pick in the first round, selecting Texas’ Malcom Brown. Brown adds depth to a defensive front that lost Vince Wilfork, and adds talent to a defense that has lost a lot of pieces this offseason. Some saw Brown going as early as the first half of round one, so the Patriots have to be thrilled to add a player of his talent with the 32nd overall pick.” – Pat Donovan

———————————————————————————————————————

“Without there being a legitimate solution at cornerback left on the board, the Patriots moved to their next biggest need, which was filling the enormous cavity on their defense that was Vince Wilfork.  Malcom Brown is an ultra-talented defensive tackle who can play in either scheme and should fit in well with Bill Belichick.” – Charlie Bernstein
