Patriots’ Slater gets contract extension
New England Patriots special teams player Matthew Slater agreed to a two-year extension, according to multiple reports.
The deal is reportedly worth $4 million and runs through 2016. The Boston Globe reported that the deal is technically for three years and $5.3 million for salary cap purposes.
“He’s well-respected in the locker room … he’s really pretty much a model player. Would love to have 53 guys like him,” coach Bill Belichick said of Slater last week without addressing the extension.
Slater, a fifth-round draft pick in 2008, is a three-time Pro Bowler on special teams. He also received All-Pro honors in 2011 and 2012. He was voted as a captain in each of the past four seasons by his teammates.
