Patriots sign RB Blount

Published

on

LeGarrette Blount walked out on the Pittsburgh Steelers right back into a contract with the New England Patriots, who signed the veteran back to a two-year deal Thursday.

Blount was released Tuesday by the Steelers a day after he left the field in Nashville before the game ended and without telling coaches. He also walked out during the postgame locker room discussion, according to reports, and was promptly released the next day.

Blount left the Patriots in free agency after the 2013 season for a two-year deal with the Steelers.

Blount and Steelers starting running back Le’Veon Bell were arrested in August for marijuana possession.

His return to the Patriots gives the team another physical option behind undrafted rookie Jonas Gray, who scored four touchdowns and rushed for 201 yards last Sunday at Indianapolis.

Blount, acquired via trade from the Buccaneers in 2013, had a four-touchdown game against the Colts in the 2013 playoffs. He had 772 rushing yards for the Patriots last season.
