Patriots notebook: Solder relishes first TD catch

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Left tackle Nate Solder scored his first career touchdown in the New England Patriots’ AFC Championship Game victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, taking a tackle-eligible toss from quarterback Tom Brady and rumbling 16 yards for the touchdown. Recruited as a tight end at Colorado, Solder had to not only run a decent distance to find the end zone, he also had to barrel through a couple would-be tackles for the score.

“Just proficient,” Solder said with a laugh when grading his touchdown catch-and-run. “I made it across the goal line.”

“Nate made a really good play on the ball,” Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said, a bit more analytically. “Obviously he’s an athletic guy that can move and plays an important position in our offense at left tackle, but has also played tight end for us in the past, including this year. (He) can catch the ball and can move in space. Obviously he made a good adjustment. The ball was a little bit high and he made a great catch and was able to run it in from there.

–CB Darrelle Revis left the first half for a short time Sunday after being kicked in the head by a teammate. Revis was attended to on the sideline by the New England medical staff as well as the NFL’s independent observer and returned a few snaps later. He finished the game without incident.

–WR Julian Edelman left the first half with a hip injury that forced him to the locker room. But the slot receiver returned the field swiftly and finished the game, although he did seem to be limping a bit at times. Edelman previously dealt with a thigh injury in December.

–RG Josh Kline earned his first career postseason start against the Colts, filling the void at the spot with Ryan Wendell bumping inside to center due to the injury to rookie Bryan Stork. Kline started four games during the regular season, split evenly between the two guard spots.

–DT Sealver Siliga missed a few snaps in the second half of action. The big veteran returned to finish the game. Siliga missed nine games during the regular season on IR due to a foot injury.
