Patriots’ Jones among inactive players for AFC game
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Defensive tackle Chris Jones was a surprise scratch for the New England Patriots when the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts revealed their inactive players for Sunday’s AFC Championship game.
One report said Jones, listed as a starter on the lineup card, may have suffered an elbow injury in the Division Playoff win over the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots promoted lineman Joe Vellano from the practice squad on Saturday, a sign they were worried about Jones.
Center Bryan Stork, out with a knee injury, headed the remainder of the New England list, which also included running back James White, offensive tackle Jordan Devey, wide receivers Brian Tyms and Josh Boyce and defensive lineman Zach Moore.
The Colts’ list included offensive tackle Xavier Nixon, who missed the team flight, and running back Trent Richardson, who left the team, reportedly due to a family illness. Earlier in the week, linebacker Seth McNary was arrested on a rape charge, so he had been removed from the roster prior to the pre-game.
The other Indianapolis inactives were wide receiver Griff Whalen, cornerback Sheldon Price, center Jonotthan Harrison, linebacker Bjoern Werner and nose tackle Zack Kerr.
