Patriots healthy heading into Super Bowl

In their final practice before heading to Arizona for Super Bowl XLIX, the New England Patriots appear healthy, with perfect attendance Sunday.

Rookie center Bryan Stork, who has been dealing with a knee issue, continues to show no noticeable signs of injury, according to ESPN.com.

Saturday’s injury report listed cornerback Brandon Browner (knee), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (shoulder), Chris Jones (elbow), wide receiver Brandon LaFell (shoulder, toe), defensive tackle Sealver Siliga (foot) and Stork as questionable. Quarterback Tom Brady (ankle) was designated as probable.

Coach Bill Belichick’s team is scheduled to fly to Arizona on Monday and hold workouts this week at the Arizona Cardinals’ facility.

For the past week, the Patriots have been dealing with distractions from the so-called “deflategate” investigation.

Belichick — under fire for his team using underinflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game — said Saturday at a news conference that the Patriots had studied and simulated the process of ball preparation and he believes they “absolutely followed every rule to the letter.”

The NFL is investigating the Patriots after 11 of 12 game balls they used in their 45-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC title game were found to be underinflated.

“I believe now 100 percent that I personally and we as an organization have absolutely followed every rule to the letter,” Belichick said.

“I am embarrassed to talk about the amount of time that I’ve put into this relative to the other important challenge in front of us,” he said, referring to preparations to play the Seattle Seahawks in next Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman was asked after Sunday’s practice where the team stands with its game plan.

“I feel good. Practice has had a high tempo; guys are focused,” Edelman said. “We still have a long way to go. We still have a few days out in Arizona to prepare so we’re going to try to take advantage of that. It’s been pretty good.”

Edelman knows he will be challenged by the Seahawks’ defensive backs.

“They’re all big, strong, ferocious players,” he said. “They play in their scheme. They’re well coached. They play hard.”

Edelman will use his last Super Bowl experience to stay focused during the media-frenzy week leading up to the game.

“You know, just all the scheduling of everything, definitely being at one has helped,” he said. “It’s always a little different every year I guess. I’m a little more familiar with what you’ve got going on when you’re there (and) being able to ignore a bunch of distractions and all that kind of stuff. It really is a business trip for us.”

Edelman was asked whether he knew about the science projects Belichick was working on in the last few days — testing the air pressure in footballs.

“I wasn’t. Coach (has) always got his own thing going and I’ve moved on to Seattle last Sunday so that’s how I feel about that whole thing,” Edelman said.

The longtime Patriots coach emotionally defended his team on Saturday.

“It’s always nice to hear your coach talk with that amount of passion and pride about our unit,” Edelman said. “We still have other things to accomplish. We could talk about how Coach felt and all of that stuff after this week because it doesn’t really mean anything unless you go out and you finish it.”

Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones said after practice he has an idea what to expect this week in Arizona.

“Well, this is my third year in the NFL and I feel like I’ve had a pretty decent amount of media experience,” Jones said. “I feel like I’m pretty well prepared for the media day on Tuesday.”

Jones said the preparation for a quarterback like Russell Wilson of the Seahawks goes beyond one player.

“It doesn’t start with the quarterback, but I feel like it’s the running back and the quarterback,” Jones said. “They have a very good tandem in their backfield. Starting off with (running back) Marshawn Lynch, he’s a guy that if you let him he could run over your whole defense; that’s if you let him.

“Then you have another guy like Russell Wilson, if you let him he could juke out your whole defense and make big plays. I feel like as a defense as whole, I feel like you’ve got to contain those two guys.”
