Patriots’ Gray named AFC Offensive Player of Week
New England Patriots running back Jonas Gray has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 37-carry, 201-yard, four-touchdown effort against the Indianapolis Colts.
Gray had one touchdown in each quarter of the Patriots’ 42-20 victory Sunday night. He had 100 yards in the first half and 101 yards in the second half to become the first Patriots player to have 100 yards rushing in each half.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Mike Evans took the NFC offensive honor after catching seven passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-7 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Evans currently is 10th in the NFL with 794 receiving yards on the season, while his seven touchdown receptions are tied for the 11th-most in the league.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt won the AFC defensive award. He collected five tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the 23-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.
San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Chris Borland took the NFC defensive honor. He had 13 tackles and two interceptions in the 16-10 win over the New York Giants.
San Diego Chargers punter Mike Scifres won the AFC special teams award. He pinned the Oakland Raiders inside their 15-yard-line on five different occasions in the 13-6 victory, and had a 41.4-yard net average.
St. Louis Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein took the NFC special teams honor after hitting all five of his field-goal attempts in the 22-7 upset win over the Denver Broncos.
