Panthers TE Williams ejected
Carolina Panthers tight end Brandon Williams was ejected after a melee broke out in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
The brawl started after Panthers quarterback Cam Newton celebrated a touchdown run to put Carolina up 17-0 with 6:41 remaining in the first quarter.
After Newton got off the ground following the 2-yard score, he got into a into a shouting match with Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan. Newton did a hip thrust and pretended to show off a championship belt.
Saints inside linebacker Curtis Lofton then shoved Newton after the quarterback did his “Superman” move while continuing to have words with Jordan.
Pushing and shoving ensued between the two teams. During the melee, Williams charged in and appeared to throw punches at Jordan and Saints linebacker Ronald Powell, drawing the ejection from officials. Williams likely faces a fine from the NFL.
