Thompson, a linebacker, was joined by fourth-round pick Daryl Williams, an offensive tackle, and fifth-round selection David Mayo, a linebacker. The Panthers did not disclose terms of the contracts.

As a three-year starter at Washington, Thompson played in 40 games and started 38. He left school after his junior season with 233 career tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 3 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, five interceptions and 16 passes defensed.

Last season, Thompson won the Paul Hornung Award that goes to the nation’s most versatile player. The All-Pac 12 selection scored six touchdowns — four on defense and two on offense.

The 6-foot-5, 327-pound Williams started for three years at Oklahoma and was a three-time All-Big 12 selection.

Mayo spent three years at Texas State and made 28 starts, finishing his career with 284 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four interceptions and seven passes defensed. He was the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2014.
