Panthers jettison CB Cason

Published

on

The reeling Carolina Panthers waived cornerback Antoine Cason and linebacker Jason Williams and signed cornerback Carrington Byndom and linebacker Horace Miller to the active roster from the practice squad on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Cason made 11 starts this season and had 55 tackles, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He joined the Panthers this season after spending last year with the Arizona Cardinals.

Cason’s departure will likely provide more opportunities for rookie Bene Benwikere, the Panthers’ fifth-round draft pick in 2014.

Williams saw action in 11 games and had one tackle on defense and three on specials teams for the Panthers, who have won only three games this season and was beaten 31-13 by the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Byndom, an undrafted rookie free agent from Texas, has been on the Panthers’ practice squad all season.

Miller signed with Carolina in October. The undrafted free agent from Texas-El Paso was with the Seattle Seahawks during the preseason.
