With the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected former Arizona State safety Damarious Randall. Here is what our Football Insiders experts thought of the selection:

———————————————————————————————————————

“Now here’s a franchise that’s been paying attention. The Packers have seen how much success the team that ousted them from the postseason last year has had on defense due in large part to their back-end play. So with their last two first-round picks, Green Bay has aimed to start their own Legion of Boom. Damarious Randall will likely make the move to cornerback for the Pack, as after losing Tramon Williams and Davon House in free agency, that’s probably where Green Bay needs him the most for now. He has the coverage ability to make a smooth transition and his versatility would always allow a move back to safety to team with Ha Ha Clinton Dix, which gives this pick even more value.” – Devon Jeffreys

———————————————————————————————————————

“The Packers have drafted a safety in the first round for the second straight year, adding former Arizona State safety Damarious Randall to play alongside last year’s pick Ha Ha Clinton Dicks. Randall is a fantastic cover safety, but won’t strike fear into receivers coming over the middle. In today’s NFL, a guy who can cover is more valuable than a big hitter, and Randall is an example of the league’s transition at the position.” – Pat Donovan

———————————————————————————————————————

“I did not see this coming at all. Landon Collins was the best safety on the board, and that’s not even Green Bay’s greatest need anyway. All indicators pointed to them wanting an inside linebacker so Clay Matthews can move back outside, and Eric Kendricks was still there for the taking.” – Alex Hickey

———————————————————————————————————————

“The Packers addressed a need in the secondary with Randall, but was he the very best player available at 30th overall? They could have grabbed an inside linebacker or tight end Maxx Williams, and I believe those guys would make a greater impact.” – Charlie Bernstein
