Packers’ Rodgers believes injury calf improving

Published

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t stressed out about the condition of his strained left calf.

In fact, he said Tuesday on his weekly radio show in Milwaukee that no matter what he expects to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in an NFC divisional playoff game in Green Bay.

The calf will be examined Wednesday before the Packers practice for the first time this week in preparation for the Cowboys.

“It feels better,” Rodgers said. “We’ll see what happens this week as far as practice reps. Everybody’s so concerned about them. I’m not, and thankfully my teammates aren’t either.”

Rodgers injured the calf during the next-to-last regular-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and reinjured it the following week against the Detroit Lions. He has not practiced since then.

The Packers received a bye last weekend as the No. 2 seed. That gave the injury more time to heal while Rodgers received treatment, including acupuncture.

A decision on Rodgers’ readiness to participate in preparations for the game will be made after Wednesday’s exam, but Rodgers is not one to miss practice.

As far as reinjuring the calf by practicing or playing, he said, “That’s not a concern. If it happens, it happens. At that point, it’s out of my control. I’ve got to get myself in the best position to play and then realize whatever limitations I might have moving.

“Maybe I won’t have any. Maybe we’ll get to Sunday, and I’ll feel great. Or maybe I’ll be very limited. It just depends on how I’m feeling this week, and we’ll adjust accordingly.”
