Packers DT Boyd suffers broken ankle
The Sports Xchange
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Josh Boyd broke his right ankle and additional tests showed possible ligament in Sunday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to his agent.
Agent Rodney Edwards told ESPN.com on Monday that he was awaiting word from doctors to determine the severity of the ligament damage.
Boyd was rolled up on by a pile of players at the end of a Seahawks running play in the second quarter of the 27-17 win, and was carted off the field. He appeared to be in serious pain as he left the field.
Edwards said Boyd may need surgery, which could require an 8-10 week recovery. Edwards said he did not know if the Packers planned to put him on injured reserve.
Boyd, a fifth-round pick in 2013, has played in 26 career regular-season games.
The Packers did get better news regarding running back Eddie Lacy, who was taken on a cart to the locker room in the first quarter with an ankle injury and never returned to the game. X-rays taken Sunday night came back negative and it appears Lacy has avoided a serious injury altogether. Lacy had nine yards on three carries.
With Lacy out, James Starks rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries against the Seahawks.
Lacy could be back in the lineup when the Packers face the Kansas City Chiefs next Monday night.
The Packers also signed inside linebacker Joe Thomas off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad to their 53-man roster, ESPN.com reported. Thomas was released by the Packers at the end of the preseason. He had spent part of last year on their practice squad.
