Orakpo goes in IR: Redskins add LB Brown
The Washington Redskins replaced injured linebacker Brian Orakpo on the roster Tuesday by signing free-agent linebacker Everette Brown.
Orakpo suffered a torn right pectoral muscle during the Redskins’ 19-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
The six-year veteran will undergo surgery soon to repair the tear, the team said. He suffered the same injury in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Orakpo was having a down year before the injury. He had no sacks in the past five games after posting a team-best 10 in 2013.
Brown rejoins the Redskins after spending the preseason with the team before his release on Aug. 30.
Drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2009, he played in 38 games for the Panthers from 2009 to 2011 and was with the San Diego Chargers in 2011-12 and the Dallas Cowboys in 2013. Brown has also been on the roster with the Detroit Lions in 2012 and the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
Last season, Brown played in seven games for the Cowboys and had a sack in his first action against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. He has 59 career tackles and seven sacks, four forced fumbles, three passes defensed and an interception.
