Odell Beckham Jr. Fined For Wearing Craig Sager Cleats

Published

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is in hot water with the NFL again, at least this time he can buy his way out of it.

The G-Men standout was fined $18,000 for wearing cleats on Sunday in remembrance of longtime NBA announcer Craig Sager.

“I got fined 18k for Craig Sager cleats that were auction off the cleats to the highest bidder and donating the proceeds to his cancer research,” Beckham wrote in a reply to an Instagram post by DeSean Jackson, in which the Washington Redskins wide receiver said he was fined by the NFL for non-conforming cleats. “18k like it’s nothing to them, no warning to take them off or anything noTHING!”

The NFL allowed players to wear tribute cleats for charity earlier this season but not during this past week’s games.

At least the cleats will be auctioned off for cancer research and hopefully, some of the fine money will go there as well.

Before you further the idea that the NFL is a “Grinch,” this is a clear violation of the uniform code, and if they were to let Beckham do his tribute then they would have to let everyone do a tribute to everything.  It’s a harsh stance, but more likely than not the correct one.
