Nugent hits second-longest field goal in NFL postseason history

Published

on

Cincinnati Bengals’ kicker Mike Nugent connected on the second-longest field goal in NFL history when he hit a 57-yard field goal on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC Wild Card Game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Nugent’s field goal with 10 seconds left in the second quarter caromed off the right upright and trickled in to close the Colts’ lead at halftime to 13-10. Nugent, who had missed all three of his previous attempts from 50 yards or beyond this season, was swarmed by a number of his teammates after making the field goal.

Former Dolphins kicker Pete Stoyanovich holds the NFL record for the longest field goal in postseason history. On January 5, 1991, Stoyanovich hit a 58-yard field goal in the Dolphins’ 17-16 win over the Chiefs. The field goal occurred one day before the Bengals’ 41-14 win over the Houston Oilers, marking the last time Cincinnati has won a game in the playoffs.

Nugent’s field goal is the longest of his 10-year NFL career.
