NHL roundup: Senators-Leafs game rescheduled for Nov. 9

The game between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs in Ottawa that was postponed Wednesday because of shootings in downtown Ottawa was rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9 in Ottawa, the NHL announced Thursday.

The shootings on Wednesday resulted in the death of a Canadian soldier who was stationed at the National War Memorial and a gunman at Parliament Hill’s Centre Block, according to Ottawa police officials.

On Wednesday, the Maple Leafs were on lockdown at the team’s hotel in downtown Ottawa, a team representative confirmed to ESPN.com.

—New York Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky was cleared for action and made his season debut Thursday night against the Boston Bruins.

Visnovsky has been sidelined with back spasms and was limited to 24 games last season because of a concussion.

—The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned defenseman Luke Witkowski to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League today, the team announced. Witkowski was recalled to the Lightning on October 19 but did not see any game action.

—Detroit Red Wings right wing Johan Franzen missed his third straight game with a groin injury. He is on the short-term injured reserve

—Defenseman Johnny Boychuk, traded by the Boston Bruins to the New York Islanders at the end of training camp for salary cap reasons, made his first return visit Boston Thursday. The fans chanted “Joh-nny Boy-chuk” after the first whistle.
